This design of this hillside residence involved rebuilding and expanding an original design by noted Bay Area architect Roger Lee, doubling the area of the house while building on the architectural themes of the expressive use of structure and a clear delineation of public and private spaces.
A composition of long horizontal lines is used to nestle the house into its hillside site. Post and beam construction reveals the structure of the building while an open plan, floor to ceiling doorways and wood ceilings emphasize the continuity of space and indoor-outdoor connections.
